About the Awards

The 2014 Equine Canada/NCCP National Coaching Awards recognize Coaches and Instructors from all disciplines and contexts who exemplify the coaching and teaching practices of the National Coaching Certification Program. Nominees are recognized for their contribution to the sport as an instructor and coach, whether their students are active in competitive sport, or are recreational sport participants.

Award Categories

Coach Developer Award for Program Development This award will recognize an outstanding contributor to the promotion, growth and development of Equine Canada’s NCCP programs.
Coach Developer Award for Program Delivery This award will recognize a Learning Facilitator, Evaluator, Master Learning Facilitator or Master Evaluator for their exceptional ability to mentor and develop certified coaches and instructors.
Community Coach of the Year This award will recognize a current and active certified Equine Canada NCCP Instructor or Coach working with entry level athletes. They focus on the complete development of their athletes, are a positive role model, promote the Learn to Ride and Drive programs, has the ability to improve athlete performance and continually strives to improve through professional development opportunities.
Competitive Coach of the Year This award will recognize a current and active certified Equine Canada NCCP Coach working with competitive athletes. They respect everyone involved in competition and demonstrate good sportsmanship, focus on the complete development of their athletes, are a positive role model, has the ability to improve athlete performance, shares knowledge with other coaches and continually strives to improve through professional development opportunities.

Final award recipients will be announced at the Equine Canada Convention, publicly honoured on the Equine Canada website and in other media, and will receive a special recognition award.

To nominate a coach or instructor, complete the nomination form, and return it to your Provincial/Territorial Equestrian Association (Alberta Equestrian Federation in Alberta) by Friday, February 20, 2015.

3rd annual AEF Wild Rose Trail Ride fundraiser- Sept 14, 2014

The AEF Wild Rose Trail ride is an annual event undertaken to raise funds to support non-profit therapeutic riding associations. Proceeds from the ride will be shared between the recipient non-profit groups which are selected from current AEF member clubs.

This year the AEF is pleased to be fundraising for the following organisations:

Join us and sponsor, Capri Insurance, on September 14, at the Red Lodge Guest Ranch in Bowden, AB.  Haul in your own horse, or rent one from the ranch.  Enjoy a country brunch buffet followed by your choice of a 2 or 3-hour relaxing ride through beautiful countryside.

Chief Executive Officer Sought for 2018 World Equestrian Games

The CEO Selection Committee, comprised of three members of the Equine Canada Board and three members of the 2018 WEG Bid Committee, is currently recruiting for a CEO for the 2018 World Equestrian Games (WEG).

For the first time in the history of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the prestigious WEG will held in Canada – only the second time outside of Europe since the first Games were held in Stockholm, SWE, in 1990. Beautiful Bromont, QC was unanimously selected as the host city on June 9, 2014, and now the search is on for a uniquely qualified individual to become chief architect, advocate and operational executive of this quadrennial celebration of international equestrian sport.

Here’s some good stats to keep in mind from the Equestrian Medical Safety Association:

  • A fall from two feet can cause permanent brain damage. A horse elevates a rider eight feet or more above ground.
  • A human skull can be shattered by an impact of 4 to 6miles per hour. Horses can gallop at 30 to 40 miles per hour.

AB Dressage Riders Set to Represent Canada at the 2014 North American Junior and Young Rider Championships

Congratulations to Rakeya Moussa (Edmonton) and Merlin Nemorensis owned by Mohammed & Susan Moussa, on being named as one of the four riders chosen to represent Canada on Team Quebec/Alberta at the 2014 North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC)!

Three teams, for a total of 11 competitors, have been named to represent Canada at the Junior Rider level.  The Championships will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park, July 15-20 in Lexington, KY.

UPDATE: Our sincere apologies to David Ziegler (Beiseker) and Peninsula Top Man, owned by David Ziegler, who we omitted to indicate have also earned a spot on the three person BC/AB/MB Young Rider team.

David will join 9 other riders comprising 3 teams representing Canada at the Young Rider Level at the 2014 North American Junior and Young Rider Championships.

We wish Rakeya and David and their equine partners all the best!

Be part of Team Alberta for the CIEC!

CEC_CMYK_engThe 2014 Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships (CIEC) will be held in Blainville, QC,  October 3-5 2014. The AEF is very excited to be sending Team Alberta to Blainville in the Fall to compete in the disciplines of Jumping, Reining and Dressage.

If you are interested in being considered for the Team Alberta selection process, there are several documents that are required to be submitted to the AEF ** Please note submission deadlines are rapidly approaching **

Canada Wins Bid to Host 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games


Ottawa, ON, June 9, 2014 – Today, members of the Bromont Bid Committee, along with Equine Canada President, Al Patterson and CEO, Eva Havaris, are extremely pleased to announce that the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Bureau has unanimously awarded the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games™ to Bromont/Montreal as host city, with the Games to be held at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.
