Dressage Canada Introduces the M.H. Lessard Volunteer Awards

The equestrian community lost one of its greatest advocates and passionate volunteer with the recent, untimely passing of Marie-Helen Lessard, lovingly known by her nickname MH.

In recognition of the enormous volunteer contribution and to honour the values of volunteering that the late Marie-Helen Lessard brought to the Canadian equestrian community, in particular to Dressage Canada, the Dressage Canada Board unanimously agreed to re-dedicate our existing annual ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’ as the ‘MH Lessard Volunteer of the Year Award’. Dr. Wayne Burwash named the 2015 Alberta Horse Industry Distinguished Service Award Winner

Distinguished Service AwardOn January 10, 2015, at the 33rd annual Horse Breeders and Owners Conference, the Horse Industry Association of Alberta (HIAA) proudly presented the Distinguished Service Award to Dr. Wayne Burwash in recognition of his lasting influence and contributions to the equine industry in the province.

2014 Trail Supporter project report: West Bragg Creek All Season Trail Plan

Merlin View Trail Construction Completed and East Telephone Trail Upgraded in West Bragg Creek

IMG_0296The AEF Trail Supporter Fund contributed $ 5,000 to the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association (GBCTA) in 2014 for continued implementation of the West Bragg Creek All Season Trail Plan.  That funding was combined with $ 115,000 in funding from a variety of other contributors to complete 5 km of tread construction on the 6 km Merlin View all season trail loop and to upgrade 6 km of East Telephone trail to sustainable all season and cross country ski use.

Canadian Endurance Athletes are Prepared to Tackle the Desert in Dubai

Canadian endurance riders, Kathy Irvine of Blackfoot, AB and Jessica Manness of Oakbank, MB, were honoured with an invitation to compete in His Highness Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s 8th Annual Endurance Cup beginning January 10, 2015 at 6:30 a.m. UAE time. This invitation-only event is an FEI 3* 160km race across the sandy Dubaï desert patterns.
